Introduction
In drug development, new drugs that showed potential use in humans need to be assessed in pre-clinical (nonclinical) studies or trials. Pre-clinical studies or trials are the processes by which scientists test drugs and devices to see if they are safe and effective. This involves the use of laboratory animals such as rodents, dogs, porcine and nonhuman primates which during a study are necropsied and organs are evaluated grossly as well as histologically or samples of blood, urine or other fluids or tissues studied. To better prepare scientists to undertake pre-clinical studies, LASAM has invited a group of experienced veterinary pathologists to disseminate the latest information on the pathology of laboratory rodents. This course is a continuation of the Toxicologic Pathology course conducted in 2012.

Who Should Attend
Pathologists (veterinary and medical), veterinarians, physician scientists, toxicologists, pharmacologists, plant scientists, and other scientists, researchers, and students who are involved in pre-clinical studies including toxicological assessment of chemicals, herbal extract or other natural products.
